Hose Stream 120 First Responder System

The Hose Stream 120 First Responder Steel-Tex Fire Shutter (SFS) is an opening protective that meets the requirement for a 90-minute fire protection rating. With this rating, it can be used in a 2-hour fire-rated wall or fire barrier assembly. This product differs from our standard Hose Stream 120 in that it features a First Responder Door for Ingress and Egress per NFPA 101.

Please see the below IBC Table regarding Opening Fire Protection Assemblies (Table 175.3).

2-Hour Fire Resistant Curtains with Ingress & Egress

The Hose Stream 120 First Responder is used to protect openings for up to a 2-hour fire wall or fire barrier per IBC 715.3. Its defining feature is a First Responder Door for Ingress and Egress, which needs no fastener, magnet, or latch at the door opening. The weight of the fabric keeps the door closed, and it takes less than five pounds of force to open. There is a side hinge at the bottom bar that allows for the fabric to swing when force is applied.

The Hose Stream 120 First Responder is a deployable Steel-Tex fire shutter system with a standard fail-safe battery backup and options for leading-edge safety sensors. This shutter is composed of a wired reinforced Steel-Tex on a round steel tube in a fire-rated assembly. The Steel-Tex fire shutter remains retracted above the finished ceiling until activated by a fire alarm or smoke alarm. Once activated, the shutter descends at 6 inches per second, creating a smoke and fire barrier. The fire shutter can also be non-motorized when activated by a fusible link for smaller openings.

Learn About the Features of This Durable Fire Protection System

Protection Rating

The U.S. Smoke & Fire Hose Stream 120 shutter is tested to UL 10B standards. It has a minimum of 1 1/2 hour fire protection rating to be sufficient for an opening protective in a 3-hour fire barrier enclosing wall per IBC Table. A hose stream test (ASTM E2226) is conducted as part of the fire endurance testing and the shutter shall have passed this test.

Head-Box and Release

The head-box is mounted utilizing threaded rods and unistruts. For power, 120V to the motor side of the head-box. The Steel-Tex Fire Shutter (SFS) will release when receiving a signal from a fire alarm system (FAS). Push-to-exit buttons are installed for egress. Leading edge safety sensor option. BMS relay option. Beam Sensor option.

Assembly

The Hose Stream 120 First Responder is a multibarrel assembly with Steel-Tex fabric overlap of 24″. A building occupant can step through the overlap to the opposing side of the shutter. The inverted T bottom bar holds the overlap in place for the length of the headbox.

Hose Stream 120 First Responder Testing & Rating

These innovative steel fiber fabric shutters were created to withstand the Hose Stream Test—a structural integrity test that defines safety measure in building materials. The Hose Stream 120 First Responder is tested in accordance with UL 10B and ASTM E2226 (Hose Stream Test) standards for 90 minutes.

For testing against these standards, we place a product specimen in a testing furnace for a period of time (in this case, 90 minutes) and subject it to a 35 PSI hose stream or greater. This rigorous level of testing holds these fire curtains to a higher level of quality and safety.

This product is certified by Guardian for NFPA 252 Compliance and by Intertek as a UL864 Releasing Device USA & Canada 110V or 220V.
