Versatile Steel-Tex Fabric
Hose Stream 120

The U.S. Smoke & Fire Hose Stream 120 Steel-Tex Fire Shutter (SFS) is a durable opening protective against fire and smoke. It meets the requirement for a 90-minute fire protection rating and, therefore, can be used in a 2-hour fire-rated wall assembly.

Please see the below IBC Table regarding Opening Fire Protection Assemblies (Table 175.3).

90-Minute to 2-Hour Fire Protection in Buildings

The Hose Stream 120 Fire Shutter is an innovative and standard-setting product that has revolutionized fire protection systems. It provides unparalleled protection for openings in walls rated up to 2 hours, including fire walls and fire barrier walls. The unique design features multiple textile layers permanently joined together within a single unit, conveniently stored within a head-box barrel.

As UL 10B-rated fire partitions, our Steel-Tex fire shutters are suitable for openings, fire walls, and fire barriers. Unlike bulky steel shutters, these are lighter-weight, collapsible fabric curtains perfectly suited for elevators, atriums, and other openings in building structures. They protect from smoke, fire, or both at the same time. Learn more about the Hose Stream 120 and explore options for your project by contacting U.S. Smoke & Fire today.

Learn About the Features of This Durable Fire Protection System

Protection Rating

The U.S. Smoke & Fire Hose Stream 120 shutter is tested to UL 10B and has a minimum of 1 1/2 hour fire protection rating. This rating classes it to be sufficient for an opening protective in a 2-hour fire barrier enclosing wall per IBC Table. A hose stream test (ASTM E2226) is conducted as part of the fire endurance testing and the shutter shall have passed this test.

Head-Box and Release

The head-box is mounted using threaded rods and unistruts. For power, 120V to the motor side of the head-box. The Steel-Tex Fire Shutter (SFS) will release when receiving a signal from fire alarm system (FAS). Push-to-exit buttons are installed for egress. Leading edge safety sensor option. BMS relay option. Beam Sensor option.

Hose Stream 120 Installed Back to Back

Please note that two systems, each with a fire protection rating of 1 1/2 hour, installed on opposing sides of the same opening in a fire wall, shall be deemed equivalent in fire protection rating to one 3-hour system per IBC table a.- Harmathy’s Principle.

Hose Stream 120 Testing & Rating

A fire protection system is only as good as the tests it’s held up against. The Hose Stream 120 Fire Curtain undergoes rigorous testing and rating procedures, including the hose stream test, which was specifically developed to assess the structural integrity of a fire assembly. As described in NFPA 252, the hose stream test applies water to the assembly to generate stresses and evaluate its structural capabilities. As a measurement, the hose stream test offers improved uniformity and accuracy compared to other evaluation methods.

The Hose Stream 120 undergoes testing in line with UL 10B and ASTM E2226 standards, subjecting it to a 35 PSI hose stream or greater for 90 minutes. These steel-fiber fabric shutters are specifically designed to withstand this test, which serves as a key indicator of their safety features and reliability as building materials.

Certified by Guardian for NFPA 252 Compliance and by Intertek as a UL864 Releasing Device in the USA and Canada, the Hose Stream 120 Fire Curtain demonstrates its adherence to stringent safety and quality standards.
